tricky lighting

I've been to this area, and it is beautiful. I think the evening lighting may have been difficult here as the bright sky appears to be blown out while the foreground is quite dark. Possible solutions are the graduated ND filter (difficult on the G!), or take two or more shots at different exposures, then combine a shot with properly exposed sky and one with correct foreground exposure into one image in PS.
