"Oh no ... - Pete

... another seagull sitting on my head !" Statue in the Jardins des Tuileries, Paris. The contrast between the sky (very light grey/white uniform clouds) and the statue's face seems too high for the scanner (Epson 2450). Any suggestions for getting some of the (weak) cloud detail while preserving dark statue detail will be gratefully received.

Why bother about it?
(not the seagull, the contrast!) The high-key works well to isolate the statue and there is enough detail in that for viewing. Well spotted (ouch!).

Great title! It just say it all.

I forgot... why don't You try to crop the image (just the head or the torso and the seagull). Perhaps it would be... more 'centered'?
Federico Spinola 11-Mar-2003 at 00:55Have you tried Vuescan software?
the Vuescan software only cost $40 and seems to pull a lot of detail out. You can download a free trial version at www.hamrick.com It works for both flat bed and film scanners. If you are using a flat bed scanner, you will be stuck with even less tonal range than is in the print, which starts of low anyway. However, the photo stands on it's own as it is. Nicely done.
