Untitled (2) - Jacob Langston

Shot from a balcony during BCR in Daytona Beach. BCR is Black College Reunion, the politically correct term for Black Spring Break which occurs right after the traditional Spring Break. Draws THOUSANDS of people to the area, often a very controversial event.

Storytelling
...is what makes this a memorable pic.

Jacob, this shot just buzzes with energy and vitality, I love the composition of the two in the car across the top. This picture is worth 10,000 words at least.

good this one too. But, I actually prefer your first b&w shot.

A great image, that fits nicely in the (nearly) square format -- very interesting crop, composition-wise. The full-size image begins to push the film to its limits, however (digital artifacts begin to show). Great image, in any case.
Thomas Munch 17-Feb-2003 at 20:21so good, I have to ask if it was "set up" or just happened in front of you?
Jacob: This is just "all there". I know Daytona and BCR and this just has everything. The cool convertible wheels, the photographer, the guy posing with the seven young honeys, the almost perfect framing from an upstairs balcony. I have to ask is this scene was set up with help from some friends or if this just happened right in front of you? Either way, it's an incredible photograph with the elements.

...excellent. Tells a story well, and its a good and engaging photograph. Could see this running in the Times or the Post in a story on BCR. The close cropping works, BTW, and pulls the elements together in a way.

No, it was not set up, it all just happened. This place happened to be in one of the busier places and a million different things are going on at once. I love street photography and never set that up, I also shoot for a newspaper and the only time I pose photos is a portrait. Id love to chat about Daytona with you, I grew up there and have seen some of your images.
Jacob Langston 19-Feb-2003 at 11:56I keep coming back to this one
Jacob: some many things that say "BCR" or Spring Break in this photo. You definitely knew where to be and seized the opportunity for the greatest shot. I can see why you work for a newspaper with intuition like this. I've got to get back to Daytona for some more street shooting.
