Hopefully, some helpful comments. There doesn't appear to be any focal point, and in my view *most* successful pictures lead the viewer's eye to a particular area of the picture. There is a tilt to this that doesn't help as well; and, lastly, the wall on the left should be cropped out. My opinions only, of course. Hope they help... :-)

I'm completely guessing here, but it is possible that you didn't use the self-timer with the tripod. I've found that this is the only way to avoid moving the camera, and works better than a cable. One of the great advantages to the G is that it has no mirror mechanism, and thus no 'mirror-shake', and can consequently produce really superior pictures on a tripod.
