Fulfilling
Glen, this one seems to have it all: there're hedgerows, dry stone walls, flowing water, greenswards...maybe even a sheep on the right....English countryside at its best! A beautiful study, indeed.

...I could spend weeks staying in countryside like that. In fact, I just have!

Very pretty area. Excellent placement of the dam across the diagonal of the frame. Question - The warter would have been sufficiently blurred by any shutter speed below 1/15. Was there a particular reason for using 1/2 sec? It's hard to tell how close the foreground elements are. Did you need this much DOF? The reason I ask is that the lenses perform better at medium apertures f/4 - f/8.

I used f/16 because I wanted as much depth of field as possible. At that time, did I know that f/16 would give such a horrible shot compared to the brillance of f/8? No. Did I know at that time that 1/15 would be sufficient to blur the water? No. And I'm not sure it would have made much difference. I wanted depth of field, I wanted blurry water, and so I chose that exposure. Would it be different today, knowing what I know now? I doubt it. It's nice to say that the lens performs better at f/8 than at f/16, but I really doubt that anyone who took this image at f/8 could tell the difference, except the trees and building in the background would be more out of focus. But, at the time, I wasn't that smart, so I didn't even make the decision.

a very beautiful picture Glen. What happened to the first load? I HAVE seen this before. Haven't I? New scan?

I took this one down over a year ago when I was doing some "housecleaning." It was up before that. It was taken in 1999; when I saw the "BRITISH LANDSCAPES" public folder, I put it back up.

The running water looks good. Robert

Glenn, the spillage, whether it be the soft light or the water over the dam--are of great appeal. I appreciate your F-STOP information, too. I suspect there are many of us in the same boat as you were, then, now.
