Scott - Nick Barnett

My son Scott. 1st ever submission. Scanned on an old work scanner (low-res, I think).

Minature

The image has a sure charm, Nick. The exposure appears superlative. Lacking a more dynamic scanner this size is perhaps best. However a larger 600 pixel width image might also be pleasing.

Cheers

Thanks Jerome it is nice to receive feedback - especially from one of the preminant members of this site ! Guess I'll have to invest in a film scanner soon ?!!!

Tools Nick

Nick, Ha! I am not altogether sure that a film scanner is necessary--unless you -want- a new toy.
My comment on the size was predicated on your personal accessment of the tool you use. Marginal photo hobbists like myself--rely on great tools-- to salvage our earlier mistakes ;-)
I want to see more of your images, Nick, under varying conditions--and with differenet film stocks--more than likely, your current tool works just fine. I'm a technical cripple ;-) I've a competent film scanner--but have not nearly given enough time and coherent application to using it well. Show us more, please--and then we will let you know if you JUST need the same crutch as I!

Jerome

Well thanks for the info and encouragement Jerome. Even though I work in software, I have really ignored digital photography and scanning until now. What I was really trying to find out was will a joe average flatbed scanner do me? - do most of the people on this site use them? or is the step up in quality so large as to really make it worth a film scanner? You seem to be saying a flatbed is fine. If so, this is good news as even if I buy my own (rather than relying on work's old thing) they're a lot less money :-) I'll dig out some other shots, but my G is new so haven't got tons taken on the G yet and there is quite a learning curve to get the best out of this cracking lttle camera.
