Aussie Seagul - Eric Anderson

This gull was captured while it was flying formation just a few feet from the stern of the Manly Ferry. Unfortunately for me, it became bored at modeling for my G2 just as the Sydney Opera House slid into the background.

Eric, I appreciate the detail in the shadow beneath the wing. And, the focus is tremendously sharp.

nice portrait! if it's any consolation, I think you would have had a seriously tough time getting both the gull and the opera house within good DOF given the high shutter speed you'd want for that kind of sharpness on the gull... plus this one's pretty nifty -- well done.

For me this shot, in fact the whole sequence with this gull, removed any lingering regret for buying this expensive little camera. I'm nowhere near a good enough photographer to have taken this shot with an SLR. I never lost sight of the bird because there was never a mirror to block the view. God I love my Contax!
Eric Anderson 18-Jul-2002 at 22:31...and well you might
Loving Contaxes is what this is all about, but how did you manage this with the G? I spotted this on the have you seen just now and am shocked by how sharp the off-centre gull is. With any AF camera that would be a spectacular shot.
