Nice scene

but, the exposure looks a little rough. I've been told not to bisect an image with the horizon. I remember somewhere a "1/3rd 2/3rds" rule in regard to this. The reason I'm told is that the viewer ends up looking in either one half or the other.

the Rule

mark, you are right about the rule I know, I first wanted to crop the image so the horizon was 1/3 but I liked the original with the footsteps in the sand more and therefore I decided to 'break' the rule.

Nothing wrong

... with breaking the rules in this case. IMO this is an excellent image and the exposure seems spot-on, not to say dramatic. I especially like the reflecting highlights in the lower left corner.

BTW

... did you direct convert to grayscale, or did you apply a dedicated mix of R, G and B?

Thanks

Lincoln & Wilfred for supporting my view. I studied law, but when come to photography I like to break the rules :) Wilfred, I tried Rich's converting method but in here I just chose the 'convert to grayscale' and then adjusted the brightness & contrast and that was good enough for me :) Never tried the dedicated R G B channel method, might experiment soon with it.

Jan,

I like this photo a lot. I like the sense of space and the army of drones. I think if the scene was any brighter a lot that is appealing about this photo would be lost.

Lowering tides. . .

The astute placement of this foreground element--makes for an elegance balance to the 'march' to the right and down the center of the image, Jan. Your interest of shooting in the lowering tide makes for a fascinating series.

Excellent image. I don't know about the uneven borders. Was this done on purpose? No matter, does not take away from the quality of the image itelf. Very good placement of the elements.
