Mary's Cafeteria - Bradley Schwartz

Home-style food at reasonable prices. This was a difficult shot because I had trouble concealing my camera. The woman on the left is just starting to wave, and the woman on the far right is trying to hide. An instant later the three servers were posing and waving. I tried cropping but was not satisfied with any of the results.

Mary's

I like it. A good example of a typically Southern (I think) institution. Why we in the South go for cafeterias so much is beyond me! I feel your pain about the "posers", Brad. When I used to schlepp around 75 pounds of video gear there was always someone yelling "Take my pitcher, Mister!".

Okra . .

Bradley, you are making my mouth water--as an Expat--North Carolinian--you know just over the border from Martensville--I feel quite at home with this image.
Good focus, pleasing compositon. Excelent mixed lighting exposure in floresence. I wish I could read the menu--the Coca-Cola logo says it all, though. I hope you are able to get a candid, soon. And, maybe, Mary will allow a close-up, too.

I like it, but

... I'm not sure about the wide-angle view. To me, the right and the bottom part look rather unintersting. I think the image would have been stronger if taken with a 45 mm.

Nice

Very sharp. I like the color the mixed lighting has produced and, the way the lines converge on the right side of the frame. The 21 is a cool indoors lens. I read this into my photo editor to play with the crop. I liked the way it looked with the bottom 20% emoved. Just enough to keep the sneakers in the frame and, to place the railing in the lower left corner. I noticed you placed the electrical conduit so it would end in the upper left corner. This would keep symmetry with this kind of crop. You lose the chair but, I don't think it is adding a lot to the image. Also, my copy leaves a small triangle of the counter at the bottom. It was the only part of 'my' crop that I didn't care for. . .. . Pretty good handhold for indoors with 100 speed film.

Thanks

I agree that the bottom portion could go. The 21 captures the sweep of the counter, but I will also try the 45 next time. I tried to reduce the green tint on the right side, but this increased magenta on the left side. I experimented with a more sophisticated modification to get uniform coloration, but I am glad that I left the mixed colors as they are. - Brad
