Good Drama
This has a rich, dramatic feel, almost film noir look to it. There is a mysteriousness to the old man, that I find appealing, though it is too bad they are looking at a brass band, rather than something more ominous.

Composition, contrast and graininess reminds me very much of Robert Frank's work in "The American's". Very nice image.

Frances--yes, the capture of the side of the grandfather's face, that wonderful felt hat, and his--next to that no-go-zone--makes for a tense perspective. I appreciate all tese elements!

is fantastic here...the POV really makes this shot. Only slight nitpick is the crowding at the edge of the frame where the band tails off, but there's a case to be made for the flow from the observers to the band leading toward the left side of the image. A real vintage feel to this image.
Robert Mirani 03-Jun-2002 at 19:40Very nice
indeed.
Jan Brouckaert 27-Jun-2002 at 16:13Sorry to disagree folks
The profile is too dark, the band out of focus and there is not enough to pull the two elements together for me.

Did you look at it full size? It makes a difference.
George Shadoan 01-Jul-2002 at 06:17Have now
