Brand New Old Photograph - Robin Kleb

I thought this one has something about the foreground tones that makes it look like an old photograph, maybe similar to Anker's 6:30 a.m., Sunday Morning, except for I scanned from a print and fiddled with it a lot afterwards. I tried Ilford Delta 400 after seeing so many nice photos here from that film, but I thought mine came out really, really grainy by comparison.

Strange
feeling over this image. Is this an effect of solarisation ? Did you do that in PS; I wonder if some detail isnt lost in this. Anyway very original
Jan Brouckaert 29-May-2002 at 14:14Jan,
I'm glad you said that -- I thought it looked kind of like a solarization also. But no, it's not. I send my film to a lab for processing. Most of this roll seemed to be printed too dark. I didn't check the negs to see if the exposure was wrong on my end or the printing end. I use Photoshop Elements. I scanned the print with this curves pre-setting called "open shadows." Then I used a Levels - luminosity layer to lighten up the midtones. I did the same process on other prints from the roll and got a more normal look. I'm not sure why this one has the strange effect.
