Kamiak Butte #1 - Thomas Munch

This is my first submission to this wonderful group of talented photographers. The image was taken in the Palouse (an extremely hilly area in Eastern Washington state). I set up in a low area and pointed the camera toward the clouds in an attempt to flatten the hills, and remove a viewer's sense of depth.

Peaceful. . .
Thomas, w e l c o m e! The technique employed with this -first- entry succeeded, exceptionally. This landscape reminds me of many European pre- Jan van Eyck (inventor of oil painting)--when most paintings were flat in perspective. This is exceptional, Thomas, to my eyes.

Uneventful lighting and banal subject turned into a great photo by careful attnetion to concept and composition. Very reminiscent of the landscapes of Stephen Shore shot in your neighboring state of Montana.

to the photograph that, I agree, shows that you achieved exactly what you intended.
