I'm always amazed at how the right light can bring a simple landscape like this to life.

There is a beautiful harmoney to this image. Bradley, I am sure it was also quite cold outside when you captured the exposure. My suggestion is that you could bring more impact to this image by increasing the scan resolution, maintain the same overall size, after cropping out the sky sllightly above the first tree's tip top. That would increase the depth of the image and accentuate the tree line, even, more, so. Give it a try, I think you might like it, too.

Thanks, Jerome, for your suggestion to crop the sky. I think it improves the image, but I will leave the original here. I began with a 600 dpi scan of 4 x 6 inch print. This produced a 3544 x 2384 pixel image that I downscaled in three steps to 600 x 404. I used the unsharp mask routines suggested by Wilfred van der Vegte. I tried a few variations, but it is difficult to reproduce the fine detail of the branches.

Bradley, Ooops, my suggestion of the rescan at a higher resolution was intended to allow you to have the exact same quality as this image and size when cropping. The resolution is fine; I mis-spoke. I only wanted to suggest a crop of the image with the same display size :-)
