Giggling At A Goof - Robert Mirani

Taking my daughter every Saturday to ballet and watching the learning and the antics of her and her fellow six-year old students counts as one of my favorite activities ever. My daughter is in black on the far right. Neopan pulled to 1200 for this one.

the photographer's presence. Why is this so much harder with adults. Well done.

Robert,my wife, whom despises, photography (no smile) found this whimsical human scene--comical. She, actually, laughed--she seldom laughs when I share the Contax-site-pictures.
Take a bow. By-the-way-the twist with the neopan is quite appealing---I like the sheer whiteness of the entire frame--or more technically the un-even-flow of graduated gray scales.
Crop it
This is a great picture that can be made even better by cropping out the stack of mats on the right. They add nothing to the image and are a visual distraction. If you remove them, then this is superb.

I agree with Glen. It makes a stronger image without the pillows RH. I would have liked to have seen this shot in a less black and white version. Loose a little on contrant and bring in a bit more information in the white areas. Well that's my 2. Euros. Otherwise: lovely picture.
Knut Skjærven 02-Mar-2002 at 09:45Some Notes and Thanks All
Thanks to everyone...didn't quite expect this strong a response, even though the setting and subjects were very compelling to me personally. Matthias, Jerome, Charez...thank you for the kind words. The girls were looking at one of the others making a mistake, and having the teacher slap her head in mock frustration. Lincoln, Glen and Dana: Thanks as well, and your advice on the crop is reasonable. I left the pillows in because when I originally toyed with a crop, the window felt too centered for me, and since this is part of a series of images, the pillows to me added to the ambience of the studio environment. Knut: I'll have some additional comments on the lighting conditions with my next image post, but frankly, the conditions weren't optimal for a graduated range of whites, blacks and grays.

Can it be made better? Yes, but what cannot?
