Organ Mountains, New Mexico 4 - Linc

The clouds were lifting from the Organ Mountains east of my home and I could see snow cover as I returned home. I quickly grabbed my G2 and set up tripod to record the sunset. The sun can be very intense in the clear NM atmosphere and when it hit the snow, it absolutely glowed. The light had a very unusual yellow tinge which made it seem almost unreal. It looked more like frosting than snow. I shot 24 exposures of Fuji Astia 100f and a couple shots with my little LX-3 digicam. I tried to overlap shots for a possible panoramic stitched image, but the colors changed between the exposures such that I can't convincingly stitch them. I didn't really notice if the G2 chose a diff' setting on auto. I suppose I could have locked exposure, but I was too busy capturing the incredible scene in front of me. :-) I was afraid to move the G2 when tripping the shutter, so opted to use the timer. It seemed to work very well, even though the wind was quite strong. Linc Selected for the Hall of Fame on 2010/May/01

Hi Linc, I'm happy to see you shot again with the G2 Ciao

You nailed it

Nice shot linc! I knew when I saw the digital "proofs" you emailed that the film scans were going to be nice. Only thing that could make it better would be if you used a 21mm ;)

Great timing

really awesome light

Ohhh

my friend. You really caught the Light! You're really a master, especially in colors and using Astia. This is really great and it shows the spirit of your lands and the reason why we are so obstinate in using our G's. I can breath the air of your Beautiful mountains, hope to breath once again this summer... (Astia vs Velvia duel?...:-) Thanks for giving us this picture Linc. With all my best. Luca.

Luca Valisari     12-Feb-2010 at 12:04

Mate, you've some super high ratings here!! You need to use that G2 a lot more than the Panasonic!! And load up some Velvia, or at least Provia for some more IMPACT!

Ibbi     13-Feb-2010 at 06:48

WOW

You nailed this perfect. Landscape with perfection. The light is amazing. Worthy of a HoF.
