BitterSweet - Jerome Belthrop

Michelle [43] and I met on a damp moor in the Scottish Highlands; she carried a pail of wild berries; her black retriever lazed about, protectively, between us. I was captivated by her expression and asked for her story; her eyes sparkled--she offered me a handful of berries. . .

Jerome

This is a very good portrait. DOF and composition are excellent. Looks a bit unsharp to me e.g the eyes could maybe be more "sparkling". Seems to me that she has a sad story to tell - which comes over really well. You certainly got her confidence to be able to take a portrait like this. This is probably f. 2,8, right?

Very good, Jerome.

Aside from the very strong image, Jerome, I particularly like the text that accompanies it. Really evocative & descriptive. Have you thought of writing? I say this in all seriousness; you possess a natural rythm to your words, and I think it a great colour to add to your artistic palette. I often think that photographers that don't write are like people with one hand tied behind their back... Just a thought. Nice to see such solid work.

Encouragement. . .

Lincoln, you always ask me these 'hard' questions--one day I'm gonna invest in a databack--so that I don't have to shrug my shoulder's in the future to your penetrating questions concerning DOF. I do suspect that that it could have been 2.8--I'm too camera un-aware to really look for much more than focus and adequate light. :-) Steve and Knut--thank you for your critics. I'm just following both of your leads--and admittedly, Steward after seeing your image--I remembered, I had made a similar image, but had not 'trusted' its verve to post here. Writing: well, Stewart--written and spoken words do come more easily than making consistent and unusual images. I will take your encouragemen to heart.

Lovely...

I'm just drawn to her eyes.

Came up on the Have You Seen

window and I am embarrassed that this is my first viewing. I don't want to consider the technical stuff- the face & expression are priceless.
