After receiving some comments on my scans I have made another attempt. Please let me know what you think, better, worse? All comments are welcome. If you dont think it is very good please say why eg. it's too flat etc. I am still learning and every little bit helps.

this scan looks much better
than the one i commented on earlier. There, the problem was contrasts that were far too high. I there said that it may be a 'digital ice' problem. The Epson V700 has this function which has the task of removing all scanning dust etc. It works well with color (although I don't use it much, I rather keep my negs and the scanner clean). But it should not be used with B&W, Epson say so themselves. I onece used it and my scans looked just like the one I commented on earlier so maybe you had turned that function on. This scan looks fine to me, although I would recommend that you clean up the scratches in the sky in photoshop or a similar program. As to the photo, I kind of regret that the foreground grasses are out of focus. It look likes your focus was on the rock. The price of this is a foreground that is out of focus. Read up a bit on focussing techniques and check the G2 manual for the depth of field tables. It's work but it pays off! I will respond to your questions on scanning by email. Regards, Bert

Yes this scan is better. But not yet at the level that you should be able to do, unless there is a camera shake involved here? I agree with Bert: do some basic DOF calculations. I would probably have "reversed" the focus and have the foreground sharp and the background OOF. Or have everything within the DOF range. I tripod would not have been the worse of ideas. As for the shot: It's imo not that exciting. Try to be MUCH MORE daring as for choise of angle and crop. This shot falls apart in one portion sky, and another portion grass. And a stone range in the middle. I classical recipy of how NOT to do things :-). You could try a 20/80 ratio in stead of a 50/50 ration grass/sky or sky/grass. Hope this helps a bit :-). Best wishes Knut
