It's probably an illusion but the horizon looks curved to me, as though the soon-to-be hurtling human is up in the stratosphere. Nice!

Can you imagine? 10,000-12,000 feet, windy ,cold, hand held no less! And a story-Imminent death!! What a great photo!

Actually it's me on the skis (and a friend taking the pic). Yes, the horizon looks curved but is not (though it's 21mm, there is usually no distortion with the Biogon). I think it's the shape of the mountain that gives this feeling. The feeling of altitude is reinforced by the misty valley with some summits emerging in the background. About imminent death, well I'm still here :-) but I must confess that in the two following shots that were made (continuous shooting, High mode) my attitude was less stylish.

All the elements are there for a captivating photo. What keeps coming back to me is the perfection of the exposure - on Velvia, no less, where there's so little lattitude. Jean-Christian's experience with alpine photography really shows here. Who cares about his form in the next two shots - this one's so full of possibility, we can all imagine whatever we want for the next frame.
