'Swiss Cottage' (2) - Liam O'Brien

Click on image for best quality. Known as Swiss Cottage the building is actually a cottage orne, built in the early 1800's by Richard Butler, the 1st Earl of Glengall, to a design of the famous regency architect John Nash. Essentially it was a playhouse of the wealthy, who dressed as peasants for amusement. However, twenty real tenant peasant dwellings were moved by the Earl as they spoilt the view from the cottage! The Earl occupied 6,000 acres of land at the time but subsequently became bankrupt. It is located at Cahir, Co. Tipperary and open to the public.

I like the B&W version

but not the conversion whioch is a little flat. IMHO it needs more contrast. Perhaps to apply a red filter.

More Contrast

Thanks for taking time to comment Alberto. I like the B&W verison myself. I just printed it for my sittingroom wall yesterday in fact. The conversion is a bit lacking in strong blacks through to whites I suppose, but I did actually use a digital red filter to bring out the sky, as you will see in my notes above. I think I find that Superia 400 does not produce a very contrasty conversion and I have not found a way to produce one yet. Perhaps this makes it particulary usefull for contrasy subjects though.

contrast

I too think that the B&W works much better than the colour. But I like the print as it is, and find the contrast gives it that 1930s style/feel to it. A job well done.
