Sacrifice Altar - Toti Calò

Ok folks, I guess you've had enough people/street photography from me. All the pictures in this folder have been used for a travel exhibition I did on the last winter (2000/1) throughout Italy with the sponsorship of several Architecture Universities (Venice, Genoa, Turin, Ascoli, Rome, Naples, Palermo); all of them are available in large format prints and up to 100x140 cm (sorry for the commercial plug-in). They all describe sites which do really exist (of course) though the names I use here are not the original ones; they belong to the ancient heritage of the region where I live, Apulia, situated in the farthermost south-eastern appendix of Italy; particularly they are dolmens and menhirs dating back to the stone age, and towers and castles built during the XVI century to protect the land against the pirates' attack. They were all colour slides I post-processed with a digital-darkroom technique which I developed myself and wouldn't reveal not even under torture. Most of them have been already published in some books of mine (particularly in "Stones - Megalithic Achitectures", 1999, ISBN 88-7261-152-0) as colour pictures.

I love it

The mood of this photo gives me a creepy feeling. Nicely done!

Very nice

Like the infra-red effect - encourages me to try and play with the real thing in my G!

Toti

... this whole series of pictures are just excellent.

A fave

Love the perspective in this one and the detail.

Charez Golvala     13-Nov-2001 at 11:25

as vish

for me its like infra red...occasionnaly why not but not all the time...its boring. i will prefer same shot with ekta or b/w.

Infra-red?

I, too, see an infrared-like look. Now I want to see the original in color (guess I'll have to buy the book)!

Just spectular!

ManOMan, what a photo!

George Shadoan     14-Nov-2001 at 15:18

Eccezionale!

Spooky shot. Must look at some of your other now too.

Contrast and perspective

Contrast between smooth and coarse, black and white, and all in good composition and perspective. Excellent! Myrra

Incredible Mood

great fit between subject and image mood, extremely well realized idea.

oh

I am long time photoshop user. I just hate the photographs postprocessed with photoshop in such a childish manner. It is just kitsch, not a photography.

Klemen Gabrijelcic     07-Jul-2003 at 02:05

wonderous image

the scene ozzes with mood and the post processing results are strong.

Too artificial effect

The tree looks like an alien in the scene. The border between the tree and background is very unnatural. Where did you get the tree which has unnatural leaves like those?

wonderful

Amazing, wonderful shot.

Sacrifice Alter

This is like an IR image. Love to get my hands on your processing details.

No, not infrared

Hello Keith, no, not infrared (and not a Contax G user anymore, BTW) but, if you're interested in this technique, maybe you'd like to take a look here: http://www.thgpictures.com The site is still a W.I.P. (most "rooms" are still empty) but you'll find more there, particularly in the FAQ. Ciao!

Toti Calò     25-Jun-2005 at 09:05

none

Thanks Toti. I have bookmarked the site and will take a closer look. Sorry to hear you no longer use the Contax G, but if I had the money, I would probably use a Leica M7.

Keefo     28-Jun-2005 at 04:47

Maybe I'm missing something here? Looks like a poor photoshop job

Ibbi     22-Jul-2008 at 18:35

This look more like digital art rather than photography, hence I feel I can not support it here.
