Nice
Great portrait. I keep staring at him wondering what his life might be like. Also has quite a good 3-D effect. He really pops out of the pic.

Did you blur the blackground slightly, or is this how it happened to come out...seems very delicate for a G camera. Nice portrait and toning overall, though the foreground figure looks almost too "cut out"...but I like the overall effect and presentation.

Leonard Neumann 03-Dec-2003 at 19:14Great story!
This picture tells a great story, but can you fill it in with some facts..., please. Technically the picture is also great, - the DOF, the grey-tones. This is good! Bernt
Bernt Kristian 04-Dec-2003 at 03:05This keeps getting better...
and I think I've overcome my initial hangups about how this didn't look like a G image...it must be the characteristics of the zoom that allow the background and foreground to coexist as wonderfully as they do here. (Normally I'd go to medium format to get an image with this feel...compare this with my very standard sharp portrait just posted) Not to get too hung up on the technical details though...this is just a masterpiece of overall conception and execution.

This is an image that speaks of many things: poverty, dignity, a hard, hard life. Dorothea Lange came to mind immediately. --Rick
Rick Dreher 04-Dec-2003 at 10:20Love the subject and her environment
It's just first class. But I can't get away from the fact that the subject is sharp while the background is fuzzy. It doesn't look right to me eye for just normal shallow DOF (which I like) It looks like something else to my eye. I'm far from critical normally on technical issues, leaning much more toward subject matter but this gets to me. And, it's possible that my brain is tricking me and it really is just shallow DOF. Anyway, it's the subject that counts. And you really nailed this one.

Very nice shot!
Mikhail Petrov 05-Dec-2003 at 13:51Definite Hall of Fame potential.
Robert Goldstein 05-Dec-2003 at 23:19If Mikhael Petrov likes it . . .
then we know it's good. Few photographers on this site can handle b&w as well as Mr Petrov, but in this image by Radu Chindris he has met his match. Extraordinary.
Philip Hurst-Moscoso 07-Dec-2003 at 10:43very good
Radu, welcome to the site. This is a wonderful "environmental" portrait and great to see someone using the 35-70 Vario zoom for portrait work. Excuse my ignorance of Romanian names, but am I correct in assuming the subject of the photo is a woman?
