Pilgrim - Jerome Belthrop

Contax G-2, 90mm, Film: Kodak Max 800 Auto-Exposure. The white and red Italian Chapel stands on the island of Lambholm, Orkney. This remarkable and beautiful monument was built from two nissen huts joined together--the insides of which are lined with plasterboard which has been hand painted to resemble brick and carved marble. It was built by Italian POW during the 40s from salvaged scrap material--as a place of solace while labouring to construct "Churchhil barriers" that protected the British surface fleet from submarine attacks--as it lay in the worlds largest natural harbor.

Jerome,
I second Linc's comment. This is one of your best shots so far (perhaps THE best) and your scanning technique seems to have matured as well. Very well done.
However, one minor comment -this has to come from me- I would have corrected the slanted verticals by rotating and re-cropping the entire image in Photoshop or another image editing program.

Again a shot with inner voice

This is a very good job Jerome, congratulations. I rated it at 8. There is composition, color balance, perfect use of depth of field, and it gives you the sense of tension between the pilgrim and his destination. I can even feel the thought of the old, wise man "... finally, I arrived ...". Really a great job.

Learning by example

I admit I was a pointless---shooter, before coming to this forum. Now I THINK before punching (pressing) the shutter button--thanks to your collective critiques. And, yes, I will have to learn to be more aggressive with the "tilt and snipe" functions of P.S. :-) Thank you all for the encouragement.

Outstanding

Jerome, when I first saw this image I thought "wow". Very nice color, composition, exposure. And this is one that gets the viewer (me) to pause and think a bit. Excellent!

Yes

Jerome ... this on is indeed really good. Like the way you mentally compose your pictures as well. This one and your portrait are heavily loaded with meaning - in fact with minimal means. Stay on it and you will add to manufacturers revenue as well :-)

Wow

I really like this image -- it makes quite an emotional impact on me. I rate it an 8.

Colors, selective focus,...

...composition...they all work well together here. I love this image!

Dino . .

I have enjoyed this image espically because it was taken on a holiday just after coming to the site. I was inspired . . . ;-) Thank you for taking notice and commenting.
