Fantastic
Another great shot for the "can't shoot action with the G's" folks!

I'm not bothered too much back the background since there is enough punch to the cow and horse to focus the eye there. Of course a little less DOF would have helped but I suspect you had your hands full. If you wanted f8, I'm curious why you chose the ND4X instead of shooting at 1/4000.

that bulls could fly..good capture
Robert Surenbroek 21-May-2003 at 23:31I just love the two expressions, and if the background has to get in the picture then the 'Satisfaction Guarenteed' sign could hardly be improved on.

fast and furious it looks. Now about the Health & Saftey briefing....

Bob, Your right I could have made this picture at 1/4000 instead of using the filter, but the filter was in place with no time to make a change. The light earlier in the day required the use of the filter with the 400 speed film. I realize that this series of shots are not the most technically correct but the important thing at a rodeo is to get the shot and hopefully the right shot. My best rodeo pix have been made with my F-5,but this isn't the Nikon Pages. The best thing about rodeo photography is that you can make a grand per day off of contestant purchases. Just have your assistant run the film to a one hour photo for processing for proofs, then set back and take orders.

I'm curious as to which mode you had the G in? This shot is spectacular--the rider's expression, the bull's expression, as well as his NBA-like vertical leap, the dirt streamers and small dust clouds--someone could shoot a hundred frames and not snag one as good. I'd be happier with less background focus but consider it a minor flaw in a great image. I'm not sure you'd have gotten enough of the rider and bull in focus had you opened up much. --Rick
