This picture could be better without my family, but perhaps they help breaking the symmetry and coolness of the room. I had to convince them and I don't know if it was worthy.

when you go for a symmetrical shot like this I would probably go all the way and center the image and straighten the lines as well. Yes, you are right: Your family, however nice they may look, turns this whole scene into a family picture. I don't think that you can have both at the same time.
