Nice one, a classic.

Lovely OOF highlights provide excellent background. Great expression and pose - is she, does she want to be a professional model?

Very nice. Beautiful model, nice pose. I do not like the sloppy borders here myself. I do like sloppy borders but for some reason do not seem to like them with this kind of subject matter. I think the image is just slightly flat and could use just a tad of contrast punch, IMHO. Very nice job though! Any more from this session?
Richard Sintchak 12-May-2003 at 07:33excellent
Very good use of the 45 mm @ f/2, your model is in perfect focus with a really nice "bokeh" effect on the background. Very smooth, especially for Tri-x. Perhaps Richard is correct that the image could benefit from just a small increase in punch, but it's very nice as is. A beautiful and flattering portrait for your beautiful model.
Gregg Humphrey 12-May-2003 at 08:51Great use of the reflector
Silver reflectors are hit and miss with black and white, but with this type of background you hit a homerun...her skin tone is immaculate here, and I find the relatively flat contrast a plus for appreciating the creaminess of her skin and the elegance of her pose. The 45mm's serviceable bokeh overachieves here in providing a sparkling background. (Very slight nitpick: the trace of fingers sticking out at the bottom). I like this a great deal.

In answer to "Does Jessica want to be a model". This was her first shoot ever and she doesn't necessarily want to model. She is a drama student at New Mexico State University and her drama training certainly makes it easy to work with her. As for the mention of bokeh-which digital camera, with which normal lens will provide this type of bokeh? I haven't seen one yet.

A lovely looking girl, timeless, elegant! This is one you should be justly proud proud of and one she will no doubt cherish.

Lovely, curls, Don. Is the flat effect, intentional. I enjoy your style.
Jerome Belthrop 16-May-2003 at 22:52Flat Lighting
In this case the flat lighting is intentional, partly because of the black dress and probably more so the influence of Jean-Francois Jonville who's style I greatly admire. If the photograph were of some ugly ol' boy I'd probably model the lighting more.
Don 17-May-2003 at 10:09Awesome portrait. Love the blur on the background, although the "foreground" is even better, of course! :)
Ludwig Argüelles 13-Jun-2003 at 05:03What a pretty girl
You're pretty good with the people shots. Background seems a little bright. Still, you have a nice effect.
