country girl

Great job once again Brett. It looks very much like a beautiful print ad for Estee Lauder or one of the other big fashion/cosmetic produces, the ones that feature Liz Hurley and the likes. Great composition and beautiful background landscape. One of these days I am going to get down there and experience the wonder.

Lovely girl

Lovely girl, beautiful setting, excellent composition. If you're trying to succeed in fashion photography, however, you really need to have more detail in the clothes and hair; they're both basically pure black on my monitor. It's got to be really tough when the clothes are black, and I'm not sure to tell you how to best achieve it; perhaps a reflector or a fill flash or something. But if you're shooting to get this image on the cover of ''ELLE,'' then you need to go all out. Apologies if that's not your intent, because this really is a minor niggle; if this were a portrait of a friend or a family member, I think they'd be ecstatic. But if you're shooting fashion, then you've got to bring out the clothes and the hair. You've done an excellent job posing her, and I like all the background framing her. Really, really good job overall.

Good

shot, Brett. I am impressed that you dare using the 90 mm, at 2,8 with a moving model at this distance. Do you use CAF or SAF here. She looks like in movement, but was she? Maybe I would clone away the tracks, but maybe not.

Very lovely

model and shot. Her dark hair and outfit are wonderfully contrasted against the colorful background. I am able to discern some detail in her clothes and hair, but I would give a higher rating if I could see a larger scan to really check the detail level. In any event, it's a fantastic image.

Absolutlely right. At the time l said to myself, "if only l had an assistant & some lights". thanks for your comments

movement?

Knut l set a mark for her to walk to, set SAF, held down that little clumsy button called, "focus lock" @ that distance, & then shot... dop was 5.6

lawrence

if only l got to this location an hour of 2 earlier. There is a fog that sits right in this small valley.. Would have looked great for this shot. May return their again.

Good thing...

we're all so complimentary about the "model" since she is Brett's wife (if I recall another thread correctly). I think that Glen is right about this as a cover shot, but can see it being used as a scene setter or inset pic. For fashion purposes, it shows the silhouette of the coat and says "you can have this stylish walk with this coat". PS, unless the black thing between the left arm and body is the flap of a pocket, I'd clone it out.

Photoshop

I use "Photoshop Elements," since I can't afford the full version.

Compliments

This carefully pre-concieved image, Brett; illustrates that successfully photographs--require little more than imagination.

Re Country Girl

All around good photograph. I love the framing betwixt the leafy trees, the use of the road, and the model's direct gaze and forward movement.

grabs you attention for sure

this is just not one of those images that you casually pass over but have to go look in detail. The contrast between the black dress, dark hair and the colorful OOF background really snap. I'd like it even better if she was not so centered in the frame, but I can't determine any of the image that is expendable enough to do without.

Really Great

If you or I were Patrick DeMarchelier and had access to 10,000 watt studio mudlights, and reflectors the size of the side of my barn,a crew of 20,and used large format or even medium format cameras, just think of what might be accomplished. But,since this was done with a tiny 35mm frame and with minimal paraphernalia, and since this is a G rangefinder site-I'm just going to have to rate "Country Girl" a solid ten.

seven months later

this pops us on the "have you seen this image" space. And I'm enjoying it as much or more now than I did originally. Overall, I think this is just a superior image.

This is a great shot, but somehow the balance seems a bit disturbing, maybe it's how the road is crowning, and she's walking diagonally on the crown ..you could have done this as a still shot with her in the roadway center. As others have said, I would like to see more texture in the clothing/hair on this girl. That requires light reflected across the clothing, but I understand it is not always possible. Have to say, I still like the shot .. I love the black costume (except for that part of the belt which appears as a black horizontal band from her right arm to her waist -- think safety pins :) .. contrasted with the lovely yellows and greens of the trees .. the serenity of the country road -- I'd be thinking of this model and saving for a medium format camera.
